A man who claimed he was defamed when a Dublin Bus driver accused him of not paying the correct bus fare has settled a €38,000 claim for damages for defamation.

The main alleged that the driver of the bus accused him of only paying €1.20 instead of the correct fare of €1.85. The man claimed that he suffered embarrassment, anxiety and distress as a result of the incident on June 25, 2011.

The solicitor for Dublin Bus said that the bus company denied liability. The Judge of the Circuit Court was told that talks between the parties had resulted in a settlement and that the case could be struck out.
